NotGram

Library Setup Run

Every step, in order, starting with no accounts at all. Plan on about two hours. NotGram is already built, live and locked to your email. Everything you get along the way, you paste straight into NotGram, so nothing is left on the library computer.

! This may take two visits, and that's okay. Meta sometimes makes a brand-new Facebook account wait days before it can sign up as a developer, and nothing can be done about it on the spot. The red boxes below mark exactly where to stop if that happens. Bluesky, and anything else you finish, stays done.

Before you go

At home

Each of these, if missed, can end the trip early.

    1 · Start

    At the library

Keep this checklist open on your phone and tick as you go. Do all the typing on the library computer.

      2 · Bluesky

      At the library

About 10 minutes, and it doesn't depend on Meta. By the end of this section NotGram can already post to Bluesky.

        3 · Facebook account

        At the library

Meta only lets you use its developer site with a Facebook account. This comes early because it's the step most likely to make you wait.

! Use your real name and real birthday, and make only one account. Meta suspends accounts that look fake, and a second account made after a problem breaks its rules.
          ■ Stop here with Meta if Facebook says your account is suspended, or asks for a video selfie or ID and the computer has no camera. Don't make another account. Go to section 9 and post a Bluesky-only test, then section 10, then tell Claude what the screen said.

4 · Sign up as a Meta developer

          At the library
! Meta renames buttons often. If a button is worded a little differently (Next or Continue, for example), press the closest match. Meta is also renaming Accounts Center to Meta Account, so you may see either name.
            ■ Stop here with Meta if you see “we noticed you are using a device you don't usually use”, or “This service is not available to you right now. Try again in 24 to 48 hours.” Don't retry (retrying can make the wait longer), and don't make another account. Take a photo of the screen with your phone. Still do section 5, then post a Bluesky-only test (section 9) and do section 10. Come back in a few days, on the same computer if you can, and start again at section 4.

5 · Instagram and Threads accounts

            At the library

Both must be public, and Instagram must be a Business account. A personal account can't post through NotGram.

              ■ If Instagram asks for a video selfie and the computer has no camera: stop Instagram and Threads for today, and don't make another account. If threads.com won't create a profile on the computer (it only offers “Scan to get the app”): skip Threads today, meaning step and all of section 8. Instagram and Bluesky still work. Tell Claude either way.

              6 · Meta developer app

              At the library

An app that exists only to let NotGram post as you. One app covers both Instagram and Threads.

                7 · Instagram → NotGram

                At the library
! If you press a Meta button and nothing opens, look at the right end of the address bar for a “Pop-up blocked” icon. Click it, choose “Always allow pop-ups and redirects from developers.facebook.com”, click Done, then press Meta's button again.

                  8 · Threads → NotGram

                  At the library

Same idea as Instagram, on another page of the same Meta app, with its own ID, secret and token.

                    9 · Prove it works

                    At the library

Seeing real posts is the whole point of the trip. Post to whichever networks are connected.

                      10 · Before you leave

                      At the library

A library computer is shared. Left signed in, the next person could open NotGram and post as you.
